Your clipboard stays on your Mac.

This Privacy Policy explains how Kept handles your data. The short version: the Kept app does not create accounts, run analytics, show ads, or sync clipboard history to a server. The Kept developer receives personal data only when you choose to send a support email. Visiting this static support site also involves the normal technical processing needed to deliver a web page by GitHub Pages.

At a glance

1. Who we are

"Kept" refers to the macOS clipboard manager app and its developer ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy applies to the Kept app for macOS and the Kept support pages hosted on this site. For privacy or support questions, reach us at keptsupport@gmail.com.

2. What the app collects

The Kept app itself does not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share personal data with the developer. There is no account, no sign-in, no profile, no telemetry, no usage analytics, and no advertising identifier.

The only time we ever see personal data is when you choose to email us at keptsupport@gmail.com. That exchange is covered in Section 11 — Support emails.

3. Local clipboard history

Kept is a local-first macOS clipboard manager. Clipboard items, boards, searches, filters, capture rules, settings, pinned items, local snapshots, and backups are designed to remain on your Mac. Managed PDFs, images, GIFs, supported videos, editor working files, thumbnails, and exports also remain in Kept's local sandbox unless you explicitly export, paste, or share them.

Local Library container

Kept stores its app data locally inside the macOS Application Support / Library container. The developer has no access to this local container.

No cloud sync

Kept does not automatically synchronize clipboard history between devices. Moving data to another Mac requires a user-controlled manual export and import.

4. Network, analytics, ads, tracking

The Kept app does not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, tracking technologies, behavioral profiling, or cross-app/cross-site identifiers. Clipboard content is not uploaded to remote servers for processing.

5. Supported content types and PDF processing

Depending on how you use the app, Kept may locally save supported clipboard content such as:

Kept uses local safety caps to avoid exhausting memory or disk space: PDFs up to 250 MB, images up to 40 MB, animated GIFs up to 12 MB, and supported videos up to 500 MB. A file above its cap must be reduced or split before it can be managed by Kept.

PDF processing stays on the Mac

Kept copies a captured PDF into its sandbox and processes pages, text, images, object edits, thumbnails, saves, and exports on device. PDF content is not uploaded to a Kept or third-party processing server.

Bounded large-document sessions

For PDFs above 80 pages, PDF Studio loads the first 80 pages in one editor session and displays both loaded and total page counts. The managed original is preserved.

Files that cannot be opened safely

Empty or damaged PDFs, missing managed copies, documents macOS cannot decode, and some password- or permission-protected files are refused instead of being rewritten unsafely.

Unsupported edits fail closed

Complex structures, restricted permissions, or fonts and glyphs that cannot be replaced safely may limit editing. Native PDF text editing currently focuses on Latin-based languages and simple Unicode characters when the PDF font can write them safely; complex shaping scripts are planned for a future update. Kept blocks unsafe changes and retains the original PDF layer.

6. Sensitive content protection

Kept includes privacy features intended to reduce accidental exposure of sensitive clipboard items. These features run locally and can be adjusted by you.

Hidden copies

Copies marked by the source app as concealed or autogenerated (e.g. by password managers) can be skipped by default from normal views.

Smart Secret Guard

Kept can detect common secret-like patterns such as API keys, bearer tokens, JWTs, private keys, passwords, and payment card numbers, then store them in a more protected way.

Short-lived sensitive items

Items marked as temporary or sensitive can be automatically removed after a short time, depending on your privacy settings.

Private mode

Kept can temporarily pause capture before sensitive work, so clipboard changes are not read while private mode is active.

7. Protected sources and rules

Kept lets you exclude or protect specific source applications and websites. For example, you can avoid saving content copied from password managers, private messaging apps, terminal sessions, protected websites, or other sensitive sources.

8. Backups, exports, imports

Kept does not automatically export or synchronize your clipboard history. While Kept is running, it can create one local snapshot per day and removes snapshots older than 30 days. Those snapshots remain in Kept's local container; they are never uploaded. Exports, imports, restores, pastes, and shares are user-initiated actions. Restoring or importing a backup replaces the current local library after confirmation, so create a fresh snapshot first if you need a fallback.

9. Data deletion

You can clear clipboard history, remove saved items, delete local backups, and reset saved data from inside the app where available. You may also remove Kept's local macOS application container (~/Library/Containers/com.yunusislegel.kept) to delete the local library. Kept also stores a random Support ID and free editor counters in Keychain; these records contain no clipboard or PDF content. To remove them, use Keychain Access to delete com.kept.support and com.yunusislegel.kept.editUsage.v1.

Deleting Kept's local library does not delete a file you explicitly exported, pasted into another app, shared, or moved outside Kept. Manage those copies in their destination app or folder.

10. Permissions

Kept runs inside the macOS App Sandbox with the hardened runtime. The app does not request access to location, camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, or direct network services. It can access files you explicitly select and the Downloads folder as needed to import, export, or manage files you choose. Anything saved in Kept comes from your clipboard actions and from macOS clipboard behavior. Opening this support site or composing an email is an explicit user action handled by your browser or mail app. Apple separately handles App Store purchases.

Optional Accessibility permission for direct paste

Kept asks macOS for Accessibility permission only when you choose direct paste from the quick panel. It uses that permission to send the paste shortcut to the selected target app. If you do not allow it, you can still copy an item from Kept and paste it yourself.

No keystroke or screen recording

Kept does not record typed content, capture your screen, or read your camera or microphone. Its global shortcut handling checks only the shortcut needed to open Kept; no typed content is stored as a result.

11. Support emails

When you write to keptsupport@gmail.com — for support, bug reports, feedback, or questions — that email arrives in a Gmail inbox operated by the Kept team. As with any email exchange, we receive:

We use this information solely to read your message, reply to you, and improve Kept based on what we learn. We do not sell support emails, do not feed them into advertising systems, and do not share them with third parties except where legally required.

Where it lives

Emails are stored in Gmail and processed by Google as our email host. Google's privacy and security practices apply to that storage in addition to ours.

How long we keep it

We keep support emails as long as it is reasonably useful to provide ongoing support, fix related bugs, or maintain a record of the conversation. You can ask us to delete your email thread at any time.

Legal basis (EU / UK)

We rely on our legitimate interest in answering support requests and improving the product, and on your consent — implied by you choosing to email us. You can withdraw consent by asking us to stop processing or delete the thread.

Please avoid sensitive data

Please do not include passwords, API keys, payment card numbers, or other secrets in support emails. If you do, we will only use them to reproduce the issue you reported and will delete them when the issue is resolved.

12. Third-party services

The Kept app does not send clipboard history or personal data to third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or cloud-processing services. This static support site contains no Kept analytics, advertising pixels, or contact form. GitHub Pages hosts the site and may process technical request data such as IP address, browser, and standard server logs under GitHub's Privacy Statement. Support email is received in Gmail and processed by Google under Google's Privacy Policy. These providers do not receive clipboard or PDF content from the Kept app. Support emails include a locally generated Support ID plus app version, macOS version, and language when you choose to compose the message; no clipboard or PDF file is attached automatically. App Store purchases are processed by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.

13. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because the Kept app does not collect personal data, most data-subject rights apply only to information you sent us via email. If you are a resident of the EU, UK, EEA, California, or another jurisdiction with comparable rights, you can:

14. Children's privacy

Kept is not directed at children under 13 and is not intended for use by them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data via email, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if Kept's features or data handling practices change. The latest version will always be available at this URL, and the "Last updated" date at the top of the page will reflect the most recent revision.
